| Find out if your local exchange
currently offers ADSL |
| |
| To date just over 2000 telephone
exchanges have been upgraded for Broadband based on
ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) technology.
This is a technology that works over a normal phone
line, turning it into a Broadband line capable of receiving
data up to 40 times faster than with a normal dial up
modem. |
| |
| This coverage means that aproximately
70% of homes and 68% businesses are now connected to
a Broadband ADSL exchange; if your exchange is not yet
enabled by pre-registering your interest in ADSL will
help to bring ADSL to your area. Almost every exchange
in the UK has a "trigger level" set which is the number
of pre-orders required for BT to upgrade the exchange
to support ADSL broadband. |
| |
| The only other restriction is
that the line between you and the exchange must be below
6km in length - as the ADSL signal degrades over distance.
